The Landlady

Today for Engilsh, we were reading a short story called The Landlady. It's a story about a 17 year old Billy Weaver in the English city of Bath, during, maybe, the 1800s. Anyway he was moving to Bath for his job, for he was to go into another branch of the bussiness. It was dark and freezing out and he stumbles to a bording house. He looks in the window and sees a parrot and a snoozing dog by the fireplace. Anyway inside he's greeted by the landlady, who's an oldlady, looks very kind, and smells faintly of almonds. She says the cost each night is 75 cents and he gladly agrees to stay there. When she shows him to his room she says to come back down and sign the guestbook. But when he comes down and signs it, he sees that theres only two other names there, both from a few years ago. And they both seem familiar. The landlady says they were both very kind and very handsome like Billy. Then she ofers him some tea. While drinking it he continues to think aloud where he heard thoes names before, and the landlady always avoids the questions. At one point, while sipping the tea, he admires her parrot and dog. She says that they're dead and that she always stuffs her pets when they pass on. Billy is starting to get very, very nervous. And says that one of her other guests must have left recently. But she repiles that there still there, on the 4th floor. Billy takes another sip of tea and notices that it tastes a bit like almonds, and remembers that thats what some poisons taste like...

It was scary. It ends there giving you the idea that she had stuffed the other two guests and is going to do the same to Billy.
